Corporal Jon Cox, Combat HR Speciailist, will be the key speaker. Corporal Cox will give an overview of the history of LGBT in the British Army. Furthermore, he will critically discuss the progress made by the army in an attempt to be more LGBT friendly. So is the Army really still homophobic? Come and find out and join the debate. After the discussion, a screening of 'Serving in Silence' will be played. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
Are you interested in improving the responses to lesbian gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT) domestic abuse victim/survivors in the North East? This event is aimed at making the case for a Regional LGBT Domestic Abuse Forum. Hosted by Gateshead Council in partnership with Victim Support North East. The day will explore three areas where research indicates there is a gap in provision for those in LGBT relationships experiencing domestic abuse: Recognition of domestic abuse in LGBT relationships, Prevention of domestic abuse in LGBT relationships, Responding to domestic abuse in LGBT relationships. Space will also be set aside for those who are interested in creating a regional network to continue developing good practice in these three areas. Anthony Young, TPA, has vast experience of working with the Trans community. This talk will discuss the contemporary issues facing Trans people as well as an interesting dive into the past... A very informative yet novel discussion. After the talk, there will be a screening of the film 'TransAmerica'.
Mike Kay, Service Manager at Teesside Positive Action, will be the key speaker; discussing the history of HIV in the gay community and an overview of how this has shaped our culture to date. After some questions, there will be a screening of 'And The Band Played On'. The event is FREE and open to everyone.
