This is opportunity for both young people and senior members of the community to come together and walk the path of History of LGBT Soho. It is all followed by a Dinner Party style discussion on changes which took place and how they affect both youth and senior members of the community.
Lambeth Council and NHS Lambeth are reviewing their strategy for services for people with physical, sensory and cognitive impairments who are aged between 18 to 64. As part of this consultation the Council have asked Disability Advice Service Lambeth (DASL) to organise a meeting to hear from lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered disabled people. The idea of the meeting is to identify ways local services can be improved locally for disabled LGBT people.
Sexual health and HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) in partnership with Camden LGBT Forum invite a panel of speakers to discuss the LGBT communities' response to HIV and AIDS, the campaigns, the treatments, the prevention work, and the support they have offered each other over the decades. The discussion will reflect this as well as look to the future and consider: Do young LGBT people today feel that HIV and AIDS are irrelevant to them? Should young people be encouraged to listen to older generations before them where solidarity and activism walked hand in hand with HIV prevention campaigns? Did the old HIV prevention campaigns work and would they have any influence today?
Studies in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender lives The London Borough of Southwark marks LGBT History Month 2010 with a photography installation, featuring profiles of some members of its LGBT community. Another side of the rainbow demonstrates that there's more to sexual orientation than any one symbol can capture or communicate - even when it's the universally recognised rainbow flag. The exhibition combines the photography of Rehan Jamil with segments from the life stories of the participants, resulting in an installation that ultimately celebrates the commonalities of the human condition. Profiles include: The Worshipful Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Jeff Hook, LGBT rights activists Peter Tatchell and Sue Sanders, Supt Steve Deehan, Southwark Police, & Canon Giles Goddard, St John's, Waterloo.
To commemorate the 16th anniversary of Derek Jarman's death and in celebration of his life, artists Matthew Stradling, Sadie Lee and John Lee Bird will be exhibiting a selection of their work in tribute to the influential director, artist and writer at 10 Gales, Thursday 18th February to Wednesday 3rd March.
