Wednesday 28th February

'The Global Struggle for Queer Freedom' talk by Peter Tatchell
Guest speaker Peter Tatchell will deliver a talk on the 'Global Struggle for Queer Freedom' as part of the University of Chester's Diversity Week 2007 - Slavery and Freedom. Peter will discuss current issues facing the 'queer' community in its fight for freedom from discrimination and equality.

Other info: The venue is accessible for wheel chair uses. There are acessible toilets within the venue and parking bays located outside. The venue is equiped with a hearing loop. There is also a guide dog pen located adjacent to the building. Parking at the University is free but there are parking restriction before 5:30pm. The University is twenty minutes' walk from Chester Railway Station, and a taxi will cost approximately £2.50. A free bus service runs at regular intervals between the Railway Station and Chester City Centre. Our Campus is only ten minutes' walk from the city centre.

The Naked Civil Servant
Film. The film tells the story of Quentin Crisp, a gay man trying to live an openly flamboyant lifestyle in the pre-war years. His unflinching determination not to compromise his lifestyle to suit the conventions of society makes the film by turns, funny, tragic and heartwarming.

Brixton LGBT Roadshow
Officers from Lambeth Police LGBT liaison team and Community Safety Unit will be present with officers from Lambeth Council's Community Safety Unit, Victim Support Lambeth, British Transport Police, Transport for London and other agencies to encourage people to report LGBT hate crime and provide support and contact details, while highlighting the importance of LGBT in Lambeth to the broader community.

A small photographic exhibition in conjunction with Hello Sailor! Gay life on the ocean wave. Joann Kushner has worked with students from in and around Liverpool to produce a small exhibition that tells the stories of Liverpool sailors.

How do we... Make Freedom real
1967 saw limited reforms that marked the first step towards legal equality for LGBT people. Now legal equality is all but achieved – but homophobia continues. Come and discuss how we build an LGBT movement that’s not in New Labour’s pocket, and that fights for real change as part of the anti-capitalist and anti-war movements.
