What is Gay Fiction? Brighton

From James Baldwin to Alan Hollinghurst, from Gertrude Stein to Sarah Waters, gay and lesbian writers have made a prolific and often groundbreaking contribution to the canon of literature, capturing the gay and lesbian experience for each new generation. But what is gay fiction? Does it stand alone as a distinctive literary genre? And if so, what is its primary function?

Join a quick-witted and entertaining panel of special guests to answer some of these questions, and to examine how literature reflects the gay and lesbian experience and whether it exists as its own literary genre.

Panel members include:

Stella Duffy, author, actor and creator of the Saz Martin crime mysteries

Jake Arnott, author of The Long Firm trilogy

Neil Bartlett, writer, novelist, theatre director and designer
