Milton Keynes LGBT community organisation, Q:space, have asked local large employers and schools in Milton Keynes to join a campaign to highlight the invisibility of LGBT people in schools and workplaces. The campaign is to take place in February 2006 as part of LGBT History Month.

The Youth Service in Milton Keynes Council is working with Q:space to plan activities in local schools in the week commencing 20 th February 2006 including training for staff, and visits to schools in MK.

In terms of employers, The Open University, Milton Keynes Council, Milton Keynes Primary Care Trust, Milton Keynes College and Thames Valley Police have indicated their support for the campaign and the main activity of the employer’s project is an hour of silence during lunchtime on Wednesday 22 nd February with awareness raising activities leading up to the event to highlight its purpose and ensure maximum participation.

Diversity (Bristol)

Things that got us through...In this session we will lead a discussion of the support we feel we have
derived from media and the reason this was necessary. This will lead to a discussion around current support in the workplace. You will be invited to share with us a favourite item from film, writing or
other media - something that helped or inspired you (this may not necessarily be LGBT in theme).

A look at LGBT influence in music, past and present. How LGBT History Month came about and how it can help us gain a better understanding of LGBT issues within the workplace. A look at the history of Trans issues. A seminar on HIV/AIDS issues.

Brixton LGBT Reassurance Road Show

Officers and representatives from Lambeth Council, Lambeth Police, British Transport Police, Transport for London, Victim Support will be providing information on Lambeth’s support services to LGBT people at this transport hub

Safer Housing Discussion Event

A large number of homophobic and transphobic motivated hate crime is committed near to people’s homes, in their communities by those they know or recognise. Many people are foced to leave their homes due to homophobic and transphobic threats and violence, making housing a central issue for many people who experience such hate crime. Representatives from Lambeth’s Housing Department will be present to discuss the issues, possible solutions and to answer any questions.

PCS Regional Sexuality Network, Sunderland

The Regional Sexuality Diversity Network Group will be running an event to celebrate LGBT History month. The event is for all staff, colleagues and managers who would like further information on Civil Partnerships, Pensions, Right CoreCare and other organisations related to the LGBT community in the DWP. The event will be followed by a meeting of the Regional Diversity group, and all staff are welcome to attend.
