Religion

Rabbi Lionel Blue

I was LGB (no T in those days) Officer at Durham Students’ Union back in my University days. Rabbi Blue a well respected Jewish cleric gave an address to a group of students about religion and sexual orientation. I was very disappointed that there were a number of the audience from Durham’s evangelist Christian movement ‘DICCU’ (Durham Inter-Collegiate Christian Union) who seemed intent only on causing trouble. They were aggressive and self-righteous. Rabbi Blue was calm and listened to what they said before giving thoughtful, considered and very knowledgeable answers which made those causing trouble appear very small-minded and a little rude. He is a very clever and articulate individual who does wonders to combat common stereotypes.
